Meet Dan

Counselling Psychologist working with the unique challenges of adults, couples & adolescents/teenagers

About Me

I’m a counselling psychologist, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). My journey into psychology started long before I opened my private practice in 2019.

Before completing my Master’s at Wits University, I volunteered as a telephonic counsellor at SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group) and worked with individuals with traumatic brain injuries at Headway (Alexandra branch). My internship at Ububele Education and Psychotherapy Trust deepened my interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy and community interventions.

BSc (Wits), BA (Hons) Psychology (Wits), MA Couns. Psyc. (Wits)

HPCSA: PS 0143421 Prac No. 0815756

I’ve also completed the internationally accredited ‘Working with Groups’ course at Ububele, strengthening my ability to work with both individuals and group dynamics.

Since opening my practice, my focus has been on creating a safe and supportive space for exploration and growth. I work with a broad range of concerns, helping clients gain insight, self-acceptance, and improved quality of life.

Continued Growth & Learning

Psychology is an ever-evolving field, and I make it a priority to stay up to date with the latest research and techniques. I regularly attend professional development courses and consult with fellow professionals to ensure I provide the best possible support.

I’m passionate about challenging societal norms, exploring identity, and helping clients break free from limiting beliefs. My goal is to facilitate deep, lasting change, both in individuals and within relationships.

Dan's Approach to Therapy

Psychodynamic & Emotions Focused Therapy

Starting therapy is a brave decision, and my aim is to create a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and relationships at your own pace.

I primarily work from a psychodynamic perspective, which means I help clients uncover unconscious patterns that shape their relationships, self-perception, and emotional responses. However, therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, every person and relationship is unique.

For couples therapy, I integrate Emotions Focused Therapy (EFT) with my psychodynamic foundation. EFT is an experiential approach that helps couples identify emotional patterns, deepen their connection, and foster long-term healing. It provides practical tools for better communication while also addressing the deeper emotional wounds that may be impacting the relationship.

Ultimately, therapy is a collaborative process. Sometimes, clients lead the way in exploring their challenges, while at other times, I guide the process toward insight, self-awareness, and transformation.

"The relationship between therapist and client is the heart of meaningful change."
